That recipe is actually from one of my college roommates, Caroline (Clinger) Hess. She got married to Matthew Hess while I was on my mission. I lived with her the summer that I was working for my physics research group.
And yes, I received the email envelope earlier this week and the box today. I love the calendar. It made me smile. The Elders congratulated me on the acceptance letter. It made me sick. Ha. I didn't think I was going to get in, so I didn't think I'd have to think about it. Well, I got in and so now I have to think about it... or have you think about it for me. My only thought is to email who ever is the advisor for my major and ask them what they think I should take. I'd like a mix of generals and major classes. And I'd like to minor in chemistry. You can also email the family I stayed with when I was going to that conference in Texas. I don't remember her name, but she is a part time physics professor and her husband is an associate dean in the College of Engineering. Well, good luck with figuring out who that is.
Actually, the mission office has our address written down as the Elder's apartment, so all of our mail goes to them. We should probably call and get that fixed. I mean, it's not a huge deal but I think they're getting tired of only getting our mail instead of getting theirs... or nothing.
Corpus has a beach. I'm not sure what I'll bring home from here. Maybe some sand or maybe something from the University. As for my pinata, a member family, the Fox family, who is going to Utah this summer is going to take it there for me. They have all of my information and will be contacting you someday.
Okay, for the President's Challenge we have a list of 350 scriptures and for the test we have to match the reference with the verse which could be the whole passage or just one verse of it. So there are only 50 scriptures on the test. Sorry it's not as impressive as it originally sounded. For the assistant's challenge, it's the same type of test, but only 25 scriptures long.
Chris is doing great. He will be way ready to be baptized. We're excited for him. This last week a member gave him dress pants, a shirt, and a tie so he was all dressed up in church and it made me smile. He looked great. The Spanish family was flakes and the novelty of sister missionaries is (gratefully) wearing off.
Poor Erina. I'm sure she still looks beautiful. I mean, she didn't have any hair for a long time and we still liked her then. :)
This last week I was driving down the street at night and I almost hit this rat looking thing. It was disgusting. It looked like one of those rat things from Princess Bride but smaller but much larger than a real rat. Sister Eisley said she thought it was a weasel. Ug. I was scarred for life and never want to go back to that street again.
We do our laundry every p-day and use our laundry bags. Our neighbor is sitting outside all the time and says hello to us multiple times each day. Today he said, "Doing laundry again?" We told him that we did laundry every Monday and kind of laughed. Anyway, when we got back today we had two laundry baskets sitting on our doorstep. Brand new. It made me smile. Next week we're going to take a picture of us and our laundry baskets and write him a thank you note. Super sweet. This is also the man who has a bird bath and a bird feeder and puts dried corn on the cob out for the squirrels.
I meet people here and it seems like I've been here before. It's super weird. It's that way with members, random people I talk to, and some of the other missionaries. I just feel like I know the people but I don't and they all look familiar. Who knows.
I think I might work my companion to death. We get home at night and we have no energy. We plan and then crawl into bed and then wake up in the morning and keep going. I guess that's how missionary work is supposed to work.
Not a whole lot happened this week. Just hard work.
I really like it here. The people are awesome and the ward is super supportive. This Sunday we had three people who live in our area bring people to church and then invite us over during the week to teach them. What more could you want?
Thanks for the letters and love and support. I love you.
Love, Hna. Butler
P.S. Pictures... First, it was Elder Steir's birthday on Tuesday. He is one of my zone leaders. Elder Newby, my district leader, is the elder in the back. Second, the sky was pretty. I know I have said it before, but that's the best part about this mission, scenery wise.
P.P.S. I tried to buy cheese cloth today, but no one carries it here. Will you send me some, please? Oh, and the cinnamon roll recipe. I know you already sent it to me but I gave it to Sister Fifita. And just in case you were wondering, we bought a shower curtain. It has purple, blue, and green dots. It is pretty cute. I will laugh when this apartment gets given back to elders.
